As a family of six, essential oils are integrated into every part of the daily lives of Casey and Vanessa. They want to share the goodness of these oils with those who use their products. From their home to yours, their facial oils are uniquely and individually handcrafted. As they pour out oils, they plan to pour out support. With each oil, financial support goes to non-profits that bring life to the marginalized and suffering around the world.
A company that pricked open our ears here at House of Coco, so we had to go and find out more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
We started Pouring Out in the spring of 2016 with the purpose of providing support to nonprofit organizations that bring life to the marginalized. I have always searched and experimented with creating non-toxic all natural products and in 2016 I decided to share that goodness with those desiring a natural beauty product. My facial oil blend has been used for many years, but we wanted to start selling it to others. We are large proponents of people using natural products and feeling beautiful in their own skin. Our facial oil is about feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
What’s your background?
I’ve been highly involved with nonprofit organizations over the years and after a few years living in Eastern Europe I returned to the states in 2012. Seeing the changing global climate after 2012 I’ve always wanted to find avenues to make a difference and help those in need. I’ve always been a proponent for using “less” when it comes to displaying your beauty. I began to study and experiment with natural remedies and home products that primarily use essential oils as well as other organic ingredients. Through this practice and study I was able to understand just how much benefit a natural facial oil would be for anyone looking to improve the health of their skin. On top of my time growing Pouring Out I thoroughly enjoy investing in raising my children and being aware and involved in the local needs of the city.
How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
My husband and I are the ones that make it all happen. I handle all the logistics of making the products and being in contact with our customers. Casey is the one behind all the design and managing the website on top of any other technical needs we have.
If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
I don’t think that I would do anything different. Every process/ step had a reason to be chosen which has brought us to our branding and our loyal customers.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Getting our footprint in the flooded market of beauty products. The first year was just trying to get that loyal base of customers and for those to trust our product.
Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
Most people do not know that my husband and I lived in Bosnia-Hercegovina for almost 3 years and are proficient in the Bosnian language.
2017 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
Our hope is to spread our products throughout the States and into Europe.
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Seeing all the support that we have received from those that have used our products. The amazing photography, the written language and the help of spreading the love of our products to others has been our main encouragement from all those surrounding Pouring Out.
Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Of course, our facial oil, a good lip gloss and mascara. Being a mother of four, simple is my forte right now. Feeling refreshed and clean when I walk out that door helps me feel like I can accomplish the day well.
Being who you are and feeling beautiful and comfortable in what you are wearing.
Statement shoe or statement bag?
If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
A good pair of jeans.
Best place for a coffee?
We have had a lot of coffee around Europe and in the States and the best cup of coffee that we have had is from Sterling Coffee Roasters right here in Portland, Oregon. Our favorite coffee shop is Coffeehouse Northwest in the heart of the city of Portland.
Chips and Salsa first and foremost. Also, Sleeping in! I rarely get the chance to sleep in past 7 am with all four of our children.
If you could spend 24 hours anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Dalmatian Coast, Croatia. Mediterranean lifestyle with beautiful quiet beaches surrounded with olive orchards and vineyards.
In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
Our main objective is to keep our business focused on a few products that are high quality and exceptional. Our hope is to be able to reach across the United States and into Europe. We love the thought that our products are made to order and are not sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold. Our hope is that as our business grows we would be able to start a NPO that a portion of Pouring Out’s profits would go toward.
